Liverpool name former Rangers boss as new assistant to Arne Slot

Former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has joined Liverpool as assistant to Arne Slot.
Van Bronckhorst will replace John Heitinga in the Anfield dug-out after the former Everton defender was appointed Ajax boss.
Liverpool FC can confirm a number of new appointments within Arne Slot’s coaching staff ahead of 2025-26 🙌

Xavi Valero has also returned to Liverpool from West Ham to become goalkeeping coach following the departures of Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel.
Valero was a regular part of Rafa Benitez’s backroom staff and followed the Spaniard to Merseyside in 2007 before working under him at Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid.
He joined West Ham in 2018 but will now head up the goalkeeping department for the Premier League champions.
Experienced Van Bronckhorst to work alongside Slot
Van Bronckhorst is another experienced campaigner that can offer advice to Slot.
The former Barcelona midfielder won 106 caps for the Netherlands before embarking on a managerial career that saw him take over at Feyenoord in 2015.
After a short spell at Guangzhou R&F, he returned to Europe and was named Rangers boss, succeeding Steven Gerrard.
He led the Glasgow giants to the Scottish Cup crown and, more impressively, the Europa League final in 2022 where they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.
He was dismissed during the 2022 World Cup break and remained out of the game until June 2024 when he was appointed by Besiktas. He lasted just five months in Istanbul before being dismissed after a Europa League defeat to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
